I qualified as an osteopath from the European School of Osteopathy in 2002. I have a family background of osteopaths and medics, but medicine didn't speak to me in the way osteopathy did.
Over 20 years in practice in my own multidisciplinary practices has taken my professional development down the route of Myokinetics. (Muscle movement and function). My understanding of the skeletal biomechanics and how and why manipulation is so useful paired with understanding me muscle function allows me to work to genuinely treat and prevent.
The body’s musculoskeletal system is carefully balanced between strength and length is muscles, stability functions of ligaments and range of movement of joints. I wanted to have a system of exercise that everyone can start with but also contribute to really challenge the body. Tina's Pilates I believe does just that.
I qualified as a Salutogenic health coach to help people promote and maintain their own health journeys. I understand when people say they are short on time. I have said these words myself but when you really want to make changes there are usually options. Finding them and sticking with them is where this type of coaching helps.
Nutrition is of course important, but we do live is that busy world and while I do believe in supplementation for various reasons but just reducing our ultra processed foods is a great place to start. As a coach I know there are simple changes to make in our lives to help.
The treatment I have provided for years is often about a “cure” for pain where possible, but the emphasis should always be on prevention. Pilates and the way I teach it, is accessible to everyone of any age. I believe knowledge and understanding is power and drive to continue to pursue anything. I teach anatomy and form and the reasons behind it and how to strengthen, lengthen and balance the body.
If we understand how our bodies function and the reasons why it's not working, it's much more likely that the consistency the body needs to stay strong will stay with you.
The body is wonderful but it's not perfect. It needs your input. Generally, we can expect the body to carry on no matter what we ask it to do. For the majority of the time, it will and at some point, if pushed to hard or beyond its ability it will “breakdown”.
It is more widely known that muscle mass and strength improves longevity. Done well, Pilates helps you build, train and improve your overall health goals.
